The manual is based on the version of the "Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention" dated August 2011 and seeks to complement it. In particular, the manual seeks to support States Parties in implementing the World Heritage Convention and to provide guidance and knowledge that will help ensure a credible World Heritage List of well-managed properties of Outstanding Universal Value.

Green Infrastructure (GI) is becoming increasingly recognized as an important opportunity for addressing the complex challenges of water management. The GI approach refers to the natural or semi-natural systems that provide services for water resources management with equivalent or similar benefits to conventional (built) "grey" water infrastructure.

The Himalayas are the water tower of Asia and are a precious resource to be used wisely and protected for human welfare, research and eduction. Communication, participation and education (CEPA) are considered key to the implementation of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). To improve biodiversity communication, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation commissioned an ethical expertise on good arguments in favour of biodiversity in 2011. This final report presents findings from an analysis of the German, Austrian, Swiss and EU biodiversity strategies with regard to their concepts of communication and ethics.

<p>Non-timber forest products (NTFP) include all the materials (excluding timber) collected from natural or man-made forests and riverine habitats, and used to support local livelihoods in Lao PDR: food, medicines, fibres, extracts and ornamentals. This handbook describes a hundred commonly used or sold NTFPs exclusively derived from plants. Each product (or species) is described as well as its conservation status.</p>
