Over the past decade, there has been growing concern among international stakeholders, particularly in Mediterranean countries, about aquaculture product quality, knowledge management, interaction with the environment, technology and systems, fish health and welfare, management of biological lifecycles and sustainable feed production within the aquaculture sector. This publication is a result of a constructive debate among stakeholders.

<p>Le présent ouvrage est un compte-rendu de deux ateliers qui ont eu lieu en 2007 et 2008 à Tunis et Rabat. L’objet des ateliers était de faire un état des lieux de la gouvernance de la mer Méditerranée, de chercher des solutions aux problèmes actuels afin d’accompagner les positions et les décisions politiques nationales et intergouvernementales, et influencer ainsi les centres de décision en faveur d’une bonne gouvernance en Méditerranée.

L’aquaculture fait face actuellement à un défi majeur: comment alléger la pression sur les stocks de poisson causée par la pêche commerciale tout répondant à une demande croissante pour les produits de la mer par des méthodes durables. L’intention de ce guide est de promouvoir le développement durable de l’aquaculture en Méditerranée et dans ce but il développe des lignes directrices pour de meilleures pratiques en matière de sélection et de gestion des sites.

Este informe presenta una revisión del estado de conservación de 165 especies de libélulas presentes en la cuenca del Mediterráneo, según los criterios de la Lista Roja regional de la UICN. En él se identifican las especies que están amenazadas de extinción a nivel regional a fin de que se puedan tomar las medidas apropiadas de conservación para mejorar su estado.

Aquaculture is currently facing a significant challenge: how to alleviate the pressure on fish stocks exerted by commercial fishing and yet meet the increasing demand for sea products in a sustainable way. The aim of this guide is to promote the sustainable development of Mediterranean aquaculture by providing basic guidelines for good practice in site selection and site management.

This volume gives the most up-to-date information on the distributions and conservation status of species in all inland water ecosystems across mainland continental Africa and the reasons behind their declining status. This represents the most comprehensive assessment yet of freshwater biodiversity at the species level for an entire continent. For managers, this information will assist in designing and delivering targeted action to mitigate and minimise these threats.

This Red List publication summarizes results for Mediterranean terrestrial mammals, and provides the first overview of the conservation status of these species to follow IUCN regional Red Listing guidelines. It identifies species that are threatened with extinction at the regional level – in order that appropriate conservation action can be taken to improve their status.

This book (in English, French and Spanish) provides an overview of the history of IUCN in the Mediterranean region, related mainly to the creation of the Cooperation Centre in Málaga in 2001. It also highlights the major projects of the centre and the work for the future.

An enclosed sea such as the Mediterranean is particularly susceptible to ship-associated impacts due to the high volume of shipping routes, long history of use, shallow sensitive habitats and sensitive deep-sea ecosystems. This report describes the potential effects of maritime traffic in the Mediterranean and explores legal mechanisms that could be implemented to facilitate management and mitigation of impacts.
