El nuevo reto de la Adaptación basada en Ecosistemas (AbE) impone la necesidad, no solo de definir las medidas de adaptación necesarias para poder alcanzarlo, sino también los componentes sólidos de gobernanza para hacerlo efectivo. Una gobernanza para la AbE que debe ser flexible, participativa, multarget_idimensional e inclusiva de los enfoques basados en ecosistemas (mantenimiento de la estructura y función de los ecosistemas para garantizar el bienestar humano).

Timely action to prevent, reduce and reverse land degradation can improve food and water security, contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation, and avoid conflicts and migration. In this regard, the initiative for land degradation neutrality promoted by the UNCCD should be highlighted.

This study is aimed at the assessment of current policies as well as regulatory and legal frameworks on renewable energy and energy efficiency, water management, the food security nexus and sustainable development in the countries of Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia. It also closely considers climate change and the issue of gender.

It is generally accepted that human emissions of greenhouse gases upset the thermal balance of earth-atmosphere system and ultimately lead to global climate changes. Nature-based solutions (NbS) -- centred on the protection, restoration and sustainable management of the world's ecosystems -- have a vitally important role to play in addressing both the causes and consequences of climate change.

This document aims to guide proponents and developers of forest landscape restoration (FLR) activities and programmes in the rapid estimation of FLR mitigation potential, alignment with national greenhouse gas (GHG) estimation processes and identification of opportunities to enhance the role of FLR in national mitigation efforts.

In 2011, the government of Germany and IUCN together launched the Bonn Challenge as a global commitment to bring under restoration 150 million hectares (Mha) of land by 2020.  IUCN has developed the Bonn Challenge Barometer: a progress-tracking framework and tool to support pledgers in meeting the critical need to assess and report on the implementation of national and subnational forest landscape restoration (FLR) pledges made under the Bonn Challenge.

This policy brief examines the existing Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) and ratified National Determined Contributions (NDCs) with regard to the inclusion of specific efforts addressing blue carbon ecosystems, namely mangroves, target_idal saltmarshes and seagrasses, as climate mitigation or adaptation solutions.
