La biodiversité des sols et le carbone déterminent en grande partie le rôle de la terre dans la production de nourriture, le stockage de l’eau et l’atténuation des changements climatiques. Ce rapport souligne comment le carbone organique des sols et la biodiversité des sols constituent la base des services écosystémiques terrestres.

Soil biodiversity and soil organic carbon are vital to the way ecosystems function and they largely determine the role of land in producing food, storing water, and mitigating climate change. This report highlights how soil organic carbon and soil biodiversity provide the foundation for terrestrial ecosystem services. Restoring or preserving soil biodiversity and soil organic carbon requires increased inputs of organic matter or a reduction of carbon losses, or both.

This publication is the result of the International Conference held in Frankfurt, Germany 14-16 June 2011 organized in the framework of an International UN Project funded by IFAD “Reinforcing the resilience of poor rural communities in the face of food insecurity, poverty and climate change through on-farm conservation of local agrobiodiversity”.

The ocean on which Earth depends for relatively predictable weather, temperature and provisioning of goods and services is now changing more rapidly than it has for millions of years. This is due to human interactions with the  atmosphere and land, and increasing expansion of the footprint of human impacts across the ocean.

Peatlands provide many important ecosystem services, including water regulation, biodiversity conservation and carbon sequestration and storage. This report informs on management and finance options to achieve emissions reductions and enhance other vital ecosystem services from peatlands.

Este es el documento final del proceso de sistematización del proyecto “Adaptación basada en Ecosistemas de Montaña” (EbA Montaña). El interés del equipo era mostrar el impacto logrado y las lecciones aprendidas con la implementación de las diferentes actividades. No se buscaba hacer un relato de todo lo hecho, ni hacer una evaluación.

This document was written to facilitate the preparation of the guidelines that FAO is preparing to assist forest managers to understand, assess and implement climate change mitigation and adaptation measures. The objective was to determine if and how forest management is changing or could change in order to respond effectively to climate change challenges and mitigation opportunities.
