Natural Area Tourism provides a comprehensive description of tourism in natural areas allowing readers to understand the scope of, complexities arising from, and possibilities of undertaking successful tourism developments in natural areas. Furthermore, the second edition contains an overview of recent developments, such as mountain biking, adventure activities in protected areas and geotourism.

This book is designed to help conservation organisations, community-based organisations and protected area managers plan and run effective ecotourism businesses. It was created as part of the Business Skills Transfer Programme for Ecotourism Development, a joint effort by IUCN and Kuoni Group aimed at supporting conservation organisations in managing ecotourism-related businesses through business skills, knowledge and experience sharing.

The guide is aimed at Investment Promotion Agencies intended to provide practical advice in attracting foreign direct investment in the tourism sector. It follows a step-by-step approach, supported by best practice case studies, for the development and implementation of an investment promotion strategy, the identification of opportunity areas and approaching potential foreign investors.

This book is a practical manual on how to develop and manage tourism in protected areas. It is for all those responsible for the management of protected areas as tourism destinations. These include not only protected-area managers but also local authorities, tourism promotion agencies and tourism business associations. It focuses on protected areas that are in an early stage of their tourism development and wish to do this in a well-planned and sustainable manner.

This study sheds light on how least developed countries (LDCs) can maximize pro-poor gains from tourism. It analyses LDCs’ tourism development aspirations as set out in the Diagnostic Trade Integration Studies (DTIS) that were completed under the Integrated Framework for Trade-Related Technical Assistance to Least Developed Countries (IF).

UNDP's Environment and Energy Group is pleased to publish this Report which will be a cornerstone for future approaches and policy dialogue on the economics and management of ecosystem services. The Report highlights the economic contribution of biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services to development and equity in Latin America and the Caribbean. It is to serve as an economic tool for decision makers so that ecosystem services are considered in sectoral and national planning.

This document reflects the main ideas of a joint production by the two Technical Co-operation projects "Implementation of the Biodiversity Convention" (BIODIV) and the "Tropical Ecology Support Programme" (TOEB), entitled "Tourism in Technical Co-operation." It addresses the planning and management of socio-economic benefits of tourism as sustainable development.
