This report explores the nature of agriculture-wetland interactions through the application of the drivers, pressures, state changes, impacts and responses (DPSIR) framework to 90 cases drawn from around the world. The report also discusses the role of wetlands in attaining the Millenium Development Goals, especially poverty reduction.
East Asia abounds in water, with wetlands in every corner, and the culture of wetlands is entrenched in daily life. The epitome of this is the rice paddy, but there are other traditions as well. The hope is that this document can increase the discourse on the unique cultural characteristics of each country and region as well as the similarities unifying East Asian cultures.

Over the years, IUCN has collaborated with the Ramsar Convention in many ways, such as supporting countries in accession to the Convention, scientific assistance in the designation of Ramsar sites, providing help at site level management, and supporting the capacity to link local communities with government authorities to ensure the conservation of wetlands.
This publication contains references to existing guidelines on sustainable tourism as well as many other useful materials on developing and managing sustainable tourism. It is relevant to wetland site managers, tourism and wetland policy-makers and planners, and the private sector (including those investing in, operating or developing tourism in wetlands).
In 2014, IUCN carried out a vulnerability assessment of the impacts of climate change on the Ramsar site at Beung Kiat Ngong in southern Lao PDR. The overall description of the wetland ecosystem and its components were drawn from the Ramsar profiles of the wetland and the recent biodiversity surveys.
