Seit 1987 gelten die Hoch- und Flachmoore in der Schweiz als geschützt, dank der Rothenthurm-Initiative. Die Moorlandschaft Nummer 1 Rothenthurm–Altmatt liegt im Kanton Schwyz und es ist mehr als verständlich, dass daraus eine besondere Verantwortung erwächst. Die Schwyzerische Naturforschende Gesellschaft nimmt diese Verantwortung wahr: Sie liefert mit der vorliegenden Publikation eine Übersicht zur Verbreitung, zum Zustand und zur steten Veränderung der Schwyzer Moore.

For the first time a comprehensive overview of geo-conservation in Europe has been presented in a book. Geoheritage in Europe and its Conservation includes specific contributions from 37 countries focussing on legislation and geoconservation practices. The only record of the history of our planet lies in the rocks beneath our feet: rocks and the landscape are the memory of the Earth.

Forschungsergebnisse werden zu Wissens-Konzentraten und Handlungsanleitungen für Praktikerinnen und Praktiker aufbereitet. Die Reihe richtet sich an Forst- und Naturschutzkreise, Behörden, Schulen, interessierte Laien usw. 

Les résultats de la recherche sont élaborés pour constituer des pôles de savoir et des guides d'action à l'intention du monde de la pratique. La série s'adresse aux milieux de la foresterie et de la protection de la nature, aux autorités, aux écoles ainsi qu'aux non-initiés. 

La biodiversité est le fondement même de notre vie - l’estimation de sa valeur économique, écologique, sociale et esthétique ne sera jamais trop élevée. Ainsi, en 2003, les ministres européens de l’environnement décidèrent d’endiguer l’érosion de la biodiversité avant 2010. Avons-nous atteint cet objectif? L’étude du Forum Biodiversité Suisse apporte une réponse documentée à cette question.

Communication, participation and education (CEPA) are considered key to the implementation of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). To improve biodiversity communication, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation commissioned an ethical expertise on good arguments in favour of biodiversity in 2011. This final report presents findings from an analysis of the German, Austrian, Swiss and EU biodiversity strategies with regard to their concepts of communication and ethics.
