Ils parcourent les forêts les plus éloignées, mesurent les arbres et analysent même la forêt à vol d'oiseau -- ce sont les équipes de l'Inventaire Forestier National (IFN). L'IFN informe sur l'état, le développement et les fonctions de la forêt Suisse. Les données de l'IFN servent à la recherche, à la pratique, à l'économie et à la politique pour une gestion durable de la forêt.

Der vorliegende Band gibt in 21 Artikeln die Beiträge des im April 2008 in der internationalen Naturschutzakademie auf der Insel Vilm durchgeführten Seminars „Naturschutz-Monitoring in Deutschland – Stand und Perspektiven“ wieder. Bei der Veranstaltung wurden ExpertInnen im Bereich Biodiversitätsmonitoring im deutschsprachigen Raum zusammengebracht, der Stand der Umsetzung dargestellt und Anforderungen für die Zukunft diskutiert.

The starting point of the present study is the fact that the quality of biotopes in Switzerland that are nationally protected is deteriorating and some are also shrinking in size. There are nearly 6000 biotopes in Switzerland, covering about 2% of the country's surface area. They belong to five categories: raised bogs, fens, floodplains, dry meadows and pastures, and spawning areas for amphibians.
