This publication aims to provide the data, theory, and predictions for the potential long-term outcome of a biodiversity conservation programme at a mining site. The Rio Tinto ilmenite mine in southeastern Madagascar, run by QIT Madagascar Minerals (Rio Tinto QMM), has been chosen as a pilot site to test the tools designed to achieve and quantify net positive impact (NPI) on biodiversity.

This publication provides guidance for terrestrial, marine, and freshwater protected area managers at both system and site levels on the restoration of natural and associated values of protected areas.

With the smaller number of marine protected areas (MPAs) compared with terrestrial protected areas, there is less experience and understanding of applying the categories to MPAs. Application of the categories to MPAs has often been inaccurate and inconsistent.

This booklet describes some of the plants present in and around Lake Tanganyika that can affect its environment and biodiversity. There are many such plants and there will be more, but this small volume is a starting handbook to invasive plant recognition, understanding and management. It contains a selection of species that can are known to be invasive in other situations and some that have already begun to show that tendency in Lake Tanganyika and/or its catchment.

This study, based on a colloquium, field assessments of development activities and technical analyses pertaining to barrier-built estuaries and lagoons, was inspired by the positive response to a preceding report captioned <a href=”http://www.iucn.org/dbtw-wpd/edocs/2011-112.pdf”> ‘An Appraisal of Mangrove Management in Micro-target_idal Estuaries and Lagoons in Sri Lanka’</a>.

This study was inspired by observations and experiences from post-tsunami (2004) mangrove planting and ‘restoration’ work in the country. Since the tsunami, IUCN Sri Lanka supported a number of initiatives for improving mangrove management in the context of the structure and functioning of the parent ecosystems – estuaries and lagoons.

This report from the IUCN Shark Specialist Group includes the first compilation of conservation status assessments for the 282 chondrichthyan species (sharks, rays, and chimaeras) recorded from North American, Central American, and Caribbean waters. The status and needs of those species assessed against the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species criteria as threatened (Critically Endangered, Endangered, and Vulnerable) are highlighted.

Il décrit les spécificités de la mer Méditerranée et le phénomène du changement climatique observé à l’échelle de cette région. Il présente ensuite les caractéristiques des cinq espèces de magnoliophytes présentes dans ses eaux.
