This report focuses on the role and importance of the fishing and tourism industries in Vanuatu’s economy. The report begins by presenting an overview of the country, its economy, and the fishing and tourism industries. It proceeds by discussing the importance of each industry to the urban and rural economies. The report concludes by summarizing the evidence presented and discussing possible future growth paths for each industry.

This report presents an overview of the economy of Fiji with an emphasis on the fishing and tourism industries and their contributions to the broader economy. This study highlights the important role natural resources fulfill not only in the tourism and fishing industries, but in the broader economy, in order to inform local policy making and improve the focus and policy relevance of subsequent environmental economic research in the country.

This project aims to assess the socioeconomic value of freshwater species across the northern African region within the context of the threats to those species as previously determined and documented by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

The IUCN Species Survival Commission and IUCN Asia Regional Office commissioned this independent report to assess the state and condition of intertarget_idal habitats along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF), in response to growing concerns expressed by IUCN members over observed declines in biodiversity, the loss of ecological services, and an increase in ecological disasters.

This Resource Manual has a specific purpose: helping to manage natural values within World Heritage properties. As such it is aimed at natural and mixed World Heritage properties as well as cultural landscapes (inscribed under cultural criteria). The intention is to help managers understand and incorporate World Heritage concepts and processes into natural site management.

The period 2009-2012 has a double meaning for the West and Central Africa Programme (PACO), one of the eight regional offices of IUCN worldwide. Firstly, it is more or less the first steps of PACO, since it was established in mid 2008, from the regional offices for Central Africa (BRAC) and West Africa (BRAO) at the time. Secondly it represents the period of implementation of the four-year programme adopted in 2008 in Barcelona by the IUCN Congress.

There are a number of EU policy areas that could have a direct or indirect impact on nature and biodiversity, and without effective application of cross-compliance principles, conservation efforts cannot be successful. The current publication does not make an attempt to cover all those areas but instead it presents in detail those most relevant to the protection of nature.
