The main goal of this Explanatory Guide is to facilitate the understanding of the legal obligations of the Parties under the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity.

This report presents highlights of CEC activities in 2011. The Commission engaged in initiatives supporting the IUCN One Programme, with an emphasis on building skills and raising awareness. CEC pursued partnership activities with IUCN members, the Secretariat, other Commissions and key external partners.

Wetlands in Danger provides the reader with a unique overview of the state of the world's wetlands. The extensive atlas section, with maps showing their conservation status, is the result of a major mapping collaboration with WCMC and IUCN. Throughout the atlas, colourful feature spreads focus on wetland issues in each region. The book concludes with positive recommendations for the future of wetland, and their conservation.

TRAFFIC initiated a series of surveys to gather basic data on the status, management, and trade of the American black bear. The purpose of the effort was to establish a baseline of information on the species and to examine trends over a period of years. TRAFFIC published the results of the first two surveys in a previous report. This report culminates the project, summarizing information from TRAFFIC’s third survey and comparing the data it provided to what was learned earlier.

This facilitator’s guide for the Promoting Local Innovations (PLI) workshop has been developed to provide conservation and development practitioners working with coastal communities with an interactive and participatory tool that they can use to promote local innovations for climate change adaptation.

This report contains the most comprehensive assessment of the status and trends of the world's invertebrates conducted to date. It introduces the staggering diversity of invertebrates, ranging from microscopic zooplankton to giant squid. Together these organisms represent around 80% of the known species on our planet.
