Environmental education

This publication aims to provide stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region with a practical resource from which to develop an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) indicator framework at the national level. The document highlights how learning, commitment and ownership among stakeholders can be maximized. It does not include an indicator framework itself.

The manual is based on the curricular guidelines of the Primary Teachers’ Certificate (PTC)course which is usually offered in the elementary colleges of Education. The curriculum of PTC carries a unit on environmental education for more than a decade, however there was no specific teaching and learning material available throughout the country for teachers and students.

Azsarenau Sochiyay Inkar Kijyay Kum Kijyay is a significant publication for ESD in Urdu language due its concentration on the philosophical dimensions of sustainable development and critical analysis of the current unsustainable practices in the world on the one hand. On the other hand it translates this high order thinking into practical ideas for training programmes of teachers and trainers and also its implementation in the classroom settings.

This publication is the first in the series Lessons from the Field: Conservation Awareness that was designed to address the challenges of communication and education as conservation tools. This introductory volume focuses specifically on strategic planning—the first and perhaps most critical component to establishing successful conservation awareness initiatives.

It is widely acknowledged that Nepal is one of the rich biological treasure chests of South Asia. There are several "hotspots" of biodiversity - areas of high species richness and species diversity, as well as high levels of rare, endangered and endemic species of plants and animals. Efforts towards developing sustainability generally demand an in-depth understanding of the diverse life-forms in nature and their inter-dependence for survival and growth.
