This report results from the deliberations of an IUCN Task Force on Ecological Integrity, and aims to provide guidance on how to successfully incorporate ecological integrity into conservation policy and practice. Ecological integrity, together with several related concepts, are grounded in a long history in the scientific literature. While widely referenced in multilateral environmental agreements, environmental standards and policies, operationalising ecological integrity in planning, monitoring and reporting remains limited due to inconsistencies in how it is defined and measured. Because systematic adoption of ecological integrity in policy and practice requires that it be well-defined and measured, in this document we identify a number of key principles and considerations that should guide development and application of measures of ecological integrity.
