The threatened species categories used in Red Data Books and Red Lists have been in place for almost 30 years. The IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria provide an easily and widely understood system for classifying species at high risk of global extinction, so as to focus attention on conservation measures designed to protect them. This latest version of the classification system was adopted by the IUCN Council in February 2001 and reflects comments from the IUCN and SSC memberships and the final meeting of the Criteria Review Working Group.
Marine protected areas and climate change
   

The ocean is a major player in the regulation of the world’s climate system. The purpose of the report is to provide information to underpin the outcomes of COP21 and in particular to demonstrate the importance of the role of MPAs in climate change adaptation and mitigation. To do this the report brings together scientific information on how MPAs can help to solve climate change issues in coastal and ocean ecosystems. The focus is on ocean warming, sea-level rise, change in currents, and other associated phenomena. The scope of the report is intended to cover all marine ecosystems from coastal to open and deep sea.

The Mala (Lagorchestes hirsutus) is a little known but charismatic wallaby, rescued from imminent extinction in the 1980s when the last 22 animals were secured in predator-proof enclosures. The last mainland wild population perished in a wild fire in 1991. Mala numbers remain critically low, dispersed among six predator-free sites, isolated from each other and located in three different States and Territories. From 3-5 November 2015, the Mala Recovery Team which comprises thirteen people from eight organisations, met to take a national view of Mala management and to identify and agree what it would take to move beyond saving the species from extinction and towards securing its long-term future. The workshop was funded by public donations and was facilitated by the IUCN SSC Conservation Breeding Specialist Group.

Pollination services to agriculture

It is only recently that the immense economic value of pollination to agriculture has been appreciated. This book reviews the expanding knowledge base on pollination services, providing evidence to document the status, trends and importance of pollinators to sustainable agricultural production. It provides practical and specific measures that land managers can undertake to ensure that agroecosystems are supportive and friendly to pollinators. It draws on the Global Pollination Project, supported by UNEP/GEF and implemented by FAO and seven partner countries (Brazil, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nepal, Pakistan and South Africa), which serve to provide "lessons from the field".

Un site à désignation internationale (SDI) est un site naturel reconnu au niveau par un mécanisme de désignation régional ou mondial. Parmi eux figurent 263 aires dans lesquelles différentes SDI se chevauchent, entièrement ou partiellement, ce qui double ou triple, voire quadruple les désignations internationales. Dans le cadre de cette publication, ces sites sont dénommés sites à désignations internationales multiples (SDIM). Ce manuel, qui fait suite à la resolution WCC-2012-Res-052-FR adoptée lors du Congrès de la nature de l'UICN (île de Jeju, République de Corée, septembre 2012), traite de questions spécifiques liées à la gestion des SDIM et inclut des recommandations à l'adresse des parties-prenants locales, nationales et internationales des SDIM pour l'harmonisation de la gestion, la conservation systématique et l'utilisation durable de ces sites.

It provides an avenue for sharing the Ghanaian experience with stakeholders at the local, national and international levels. Marine transboundary conservation and protected areas
