Natural resource management bylaws for Khorweyne, Habarow-Saka and Kasha sub-catchments -- Garissa County
   

These bylaws were developed through a consultative process involving stakeholders of the Building Drought Resilience (BDR) Project implemented by IUCN with funding from Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC). The goal of the bylaws is to support the sustainable management of land and water resources in the Lower Tana River Catchment through enhanced natural resource governance in order to build resilience of communities to drought. Upon their adoption/endorsement by the County Governments, these bylaws will be implemented through the framework of the Council of Elders.

This report illustrates the large scale of the bird trade documented through a complete inventory of five major markets in eastern and central Java (Bratang, Kupang, Turi (Surabaya); Malang and Yogyakarta) and follows on from a similar inventory carried out in Jakarta in 2014, which documented a total of 19,036 birds.

Field guide to seagrasses of the Red Sea

The purpose of this publication is to provide naturalists, resource managers and scientists with a simple guide to identify all species of seagrasses in the Red Sea. Each species is described in detail using photographs of key and diagnostic features. Key features are those that distinguish a particular species from most other species, whereas diagnostic features belong only to that species. The guide begins with a description of habitats in the Red Sea that support seagrasses, followed by an introduction to the features of seagrasses used for identification. Each seagrass species is then described individually. These species are grouped into two families: Cymodoceaceae and Hydrocharitaceae. Within each family, species are listed alphabetically. This second edition reflects an update of the Halophila species known to occur in the Red Sea.

Going Dutch : an analysis of the import of live animals from Indonesia by the Netherlands

The aim of this study was to gain insights into the import-export relationships between Indonesia and the Netherlands by studying the trade in live animals from 2003 to 2013. The true dynamics of the trade between both countries are relatively poorly understood. This report allows a better understanding of the role of the Netherlands as an importing country, and Indonesia as an exporter of live animal species by providing an overview of trade dynamics. The results can be used to guide future policy and regulatory interventions and highlight issues of concern.

With the increasing threats that disasters present there is an urgent need to prioritise proactive disaster risk reduction over reacting to disaster events. The ecosystem approach for disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR) is a key element of such preventive measures but still remains underdeveloped worldwide and in need of scaling up. This publication documents the importance of biodiversity in disaster risk reduction and makes a case for the implementation of integrated approaches that benefit both biodiversity conservation and risk reduction. Building up on regional experiences on Eco-DRR, the report also highlights the opportunities and entry-points to scale-up integrated approaches in 6 regions.

Gestión de ADIM : armonización de la gestión de áreas de designación internacional múltiple

Un Área de Designación Internacional (ADI) es un área natural reconocida internacionalmente por un mecanismo de designación global o regional. De todos éstos, 263 son áreas con diferentes ADI solapadas total o parcialmente, con lo que tienen designaciones internacionales dobles, triples o incluso cuádruples. Estas áreas se denominan Áreas de Designación Internacional Múltiple (ADIM) a efectos de la presente publicación. Como seguimiento de la Resolución WCC-2012-Res-052 aprobada en el Congreso Mundial de la Naturaleza de la UICN (Isla de Jeju, República de Corea, setiembre de 2012), la presente Guía aborda cuestiones específicas relativas a la gestión de ADIM e incluye recomendaciones para la armonización de la gestión, la conservación sistemática y el uso sostenible de estas áreas destinadas a las partes interesadas de las ADIM en los ámbitos local, nacional e internacional.
Governance of local forests in ENPI East countries and Russia

Further, the methodology applied in this Regional Study and the experiences made are expected to contribute to the further development of the IUCN Nature Resource Governance Framework by providing practical test cases from a specific region.

The purpose of this study has been to collect insights into corporate ‘water stewardship’ based on exchanges of information and views with representatives of private companies, public agencies, NGOs and other organisations involved in corporate water management. The discussion was extended to consider how water stewardship contributes to water resources management and how it connects with efforts by governments to implement ‘integrated’ water resources management (IWRM) under the Sustainable Development Goals.
