Facilitating REDD+ benefit sharing in Peru

The project "Facilitating REDD+ benefit sharing in Peru" (2013-2016) aimed to implement early REDD+ actions enabled by appropriate, efficient and equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms that are sufficiently robust to be mainstreamed into long-term national and international REDD+ frameworks. Among the main lessons learnt of the project: The need to establish a clear model of governance between the different actors to potentiate the strengths of sustainable forest management and the need of adaptive management to adjust an initiative at national and local context of the native community are highlighted.
Highlights 2016 : Business and Biodiversity Programme
   

IUCN collaborates with business at the company and sector level as well as across sectors. It also works with key associations and organisations concerned with promoting good business practices. Throughout 2016, the Business and Biodiversity Programme has continued to advance partnership activities. This document presents the key results of the Our Common Dignity initiative on rights and World Heritage undertaken by the Advisory Bodies to the World Heritage Convention (ICCROM, ICOMOS and IUCN) under the coordination of ICOMOS Norway between 2011 and 2016. The report describes and discusses work carried out by the Advisory Bodies during this period, and should not be seen as their final words nor their entire institutional opinion on this topic. It seeks to contribute to discussions about what is needed to build equitable and rights-based heritage conservation approaches in the World Heritage and heritage practices.

Biodiversity and the Great Green Wall explores the dependence of humanity on nature and the importance of biodiversity for wellbeing and sustainable development in the Sahel. The report is written to raise awareness of the critical role for biodiversity in achieving the goals of the Great Green Wall. It presents new evidence of the links between biodiversity, ecosystem services and human welfare, and demonstrates the importance of biodiversity for sustainable agriculture, providing arguments for the connection between the agricultural and environmental sectors.

Tabe'a II is a second more detailed analysis of the Arab region's World Heritage Programme based on the baseline established in the first report from 2011, as well as of the progress achieved since then. Specifically, the report provides a strategic update on the state of conservation of the Natural World Heritage properties in the Arab region based on the various assessment tools used by IUCN; further analyses the national Tentative Lists of the States Parties in the region; presents a selection of key case studies, success stories, challenges and lessons learnt; and provides a set of specific recommendations targeting the multiple layers related to World Heritage in the Arab region.

To date, a major concern has been the challenge of feeding farmed fish with products that are nutritious but, at the same time, economically and environmentally sustainable. This guide sheds sheds light on the different sources of feed ingredients provided to fish during their life cycle. It should prove to be a very useful tool for anyone - researchers, professionals, and governments alike - who aims to reduce the impact of the aquaculture industry on marine and freshwater resources.

The shark and ray trade in Singapore

Singapore is known to play a major role in the global trade and consumption in shark and ray parts, though a country-specific analysis has not been conducted recently. Based on this, TRAFFIC and WWF undertook an exercise to understand the scale of this trade involving Singapore, and the role it plays. This assessment describes the characteristics of shark product trade through Singapore over a ten-year period, from 2005 to 2014 as well as the current regulatory systems in place.

El Proyecto "Facilitando la distribución de beneficios para REDD+" (2013-2016) buscó implementar acciones REDD+ tempranas, mediante mecanismos de distribución de beneficios eficientes y equitativos lo suficientemente robustos para ser integrados a largo plazo en los marcos de trabajo REDD+ nacionales e internacionales. Entre los principales aprendizajes y lecciones del proyecto se destaca la necesidad de establecer un modelo claro de gobernanza entre los diversos actores, para potenciar las fortalezas del manejo forestal sostenible, así como la necesidad del manejo adaptativo para ajustar una iniciativa al contexto nacional y local de una comunidad nativa.

Baseline assessment of coral reefs of North Ari is the first study to investigate spatial variation in reef condition within the context of different human pressures in one atoll in the Maldives. Specifically, this study aimed to investigate whether and how coral reef condition (fish biomass, structural complexity, coral composition and live cover, and foraminiferal assemblages) vary spatially among reefs with different population levels and/or under different management regimes within North Ari atoll.
