| Policy influencing/advocacy | In March 2025, the Chinese National Medical Products Administration and the National Health Commission officially released the 2025 edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China (Chinese Pharmacopoeia), which will take effect on October 1, 2025. Notably, 19 traditional Chinese medicines, including Gui Ling Ji, have been removed. Gui Ling Ji includes ingredients like pangolin and seahorse. | Education/Communication/Raising awareness | Limulus amebocyte lysate (LAL)'s widespread use contributes to wild horseshoe crab depletion. China's judiciary is actively combating illegal trade and undertaking restoration efforts. For instance, in March 2025, the Ruian (Zhejiang) procuratorate prosecuted an illegal Chinese horseshoe crab trafficking case, releasing the assessed healthy individuals back to suitable waters.
