3 Capacity building The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) continues to refine a prototype World Database on Ecological Corridors (WDEC) and pilot test its functionality with country leads. In 2026/27, with support from the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative (Y2Y), WCMC will expand outreach to potential piloting countries and guide them through a process of submitting corridor information. 3a, 3c, 3d Scientific/technical activities Aquarium Berlin contributes to ex situ conservation of threatened freshwater fishes through successful breeding and management of captive populations in line with IUCN Guidelines on the Use of Ex situ Management. During the reporting period, successful breeding was achieved for six IUCN Red List species: Betta hendra (CR), B. rutilans (CR), B. livida (EN), Parosphromenus anjunganensis (EN), Oreochromis alcalicus (EN) and Tilapia guinasana (CR). Successful ex situ conservation requires specialised husbandry expertise, suitable facilities and sustained breeding efforts. Maintaining viable captive populations of freshwater fishes can be challenging due to species-specific requirements and the need for long-term population management.
